Yoknapatawpha County Line
This smoky Manhattan variation gets its name from the North Mississippi autumns which Faulkner painted pictures of. Aged rhum and tobacco bitters form the base of this cold weather ready cocktail supported by High Wire Distilling Company’s Southern Amaro. The final piece is the modified vermouth; To do this I steep black tea in sweet vermouth to pick up an autumn leaves-like flavor which really plays nicely with the heavy pepper and tobacco flavors.
Ingredients:
2 oz. Barbancourt 10 Year Rhum
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth (steeped for a few hours with a smoky black tea, like Bohea)
1 heavy dash Angostura Bitters
3 dash Orange Bitters
1 clove
Preparation:
Add all ingredients to mixing glass. Fill with ice and stir to chill. Serve in a rocks glass over ice and garnish with a thick peel of orange.
